Jan Wilkens

Jan Wilkens is Program Manager at the Alfred Landecker Foundation
He accompanies the Foundation's funding activities, focusing in particular on projects aimed at combating antisemitism and strengthening Jewish life. Jan also looks after the Foundation's academic programmes together with other colleagues.
Before joining the Alfred Landecker Foundation, Jan worked in project management. He carried out projects that were publicly funded with the aim of strengthening Jewish communities in Germany and reducing antisemitic attitudes in society. Alongside this work, he was also active at the New Synagogue Berlin - Centrum Judaicum Foundation as a historical and political educator for various target groups. He has also volunteered in youth education and in other civil society contexts.
Jan’s academic background is in Jewish Studies that he pursued in Berlin, Potsdam and Haifa, where he graduated summa cum laude. In his doctoral thesis, he analysed the first queer Jewish groups in Europe, which were founded in London, Paris, and Amsterdam in the 1970s and built up a close network among themselves.
